I’ve been going to The Nail File in Dorking for about a year now and honestly couldn’t recommend them more. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and professional. The team are incredibly skilled, detail-oriented, and take real pride in their work – my nails have never looked better.

I’ve been going here for over 11 years, but the past several visits have been disappointing. Unless the salon is quiet, the service often feels rushed and dismissive. I’ve also noticed a difference in treatment if you’re not an English national — something that shouldn’t be happening.

On my last visit, I asked to test a colour, and the technician reacted with visible frustration. The result was smudged nails, uncured product left inside, and unfinished cuticles. When I asked if they were done, I was told they had already done the cuticles — which they hadn’t. After so many chances, I can’t recommend them anymore. I recently visited the nail file and had an extremely disappointing experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. The technician assigned to me didn't even greet me or acknowledge my presence, which set the tone for the entire appointment. As the only brown woman in the salon at the time, it was painfully obvious that I was being treated differently from the other customers, who were treated with much more care and respect.

Throughout the appointment, the technician barely spoke to me, keeping his AirPods in the entire time, which I didn't mind( you do you idc), but it added to the overall lack of engagement and professionalism. When I noticed that he had smudged my nail design and politely asked him to redo it, his attitude became even worse. He responded with hostility, making me feel incredibly uncomfortable and disrespected. The final straw was when he aggressively told me the price without the basic courtesy of saying "please."

After paying the full price, I gathered the courage to confront him about his rude behavior. Instead of apologizing, he remained silent and showed no remorse. Thankfully, another male assistant stepped in and tried to resolve the issue, but by that point, I was already in tears from the horrible treatment I had received. To make matters worse, the technician who did my nails cursed at me in Tagalog, not realizing that I understood the language. This was beyond unprofessional and deeply hurtful.

I went to the nail file based on a friend's recommendation, but I will never return. If you are a woman of color, I urge you to avoid this salon at all costs. The way I was treated was unacceptable, and I wouldn't want anyone else to experience the same. If you do decide to go, I suggest booking an appointment with one of the female assistants or the polite male assistant who answers the phones.

This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a salon, and I sincerely hope they take steps to improve their customer service and treat all clients with the respect they deserve.
