Really disappointing. Booked my wife a spa day for our anniversary so that she could relax and have a break. She said the massage was good (only reason this is a 2*) but the changing rooms were poor and in need of some TLC. Main issue was that when her treatment was finished it was so busy that there were no seats around pool and cafe area was shared with gym so was also busy and loud. She didn't even stick around for the lunch. Really gutted

I attended as part of a group that I hadn’t organised. When I looked up the venue beforehand, I was honestly quite concerned by some of the negative reviews — I probably wouldn’t have booked it myself based on those. However, I ended up being genuinely pleasantly surprised.

I had a full spa day with a 50-minute treatment, dinner, overnight stay and breakfast.

Arrival & Facilities
We arrived around 9am. Reception staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient, and I was pleased to find a light breakfast included. The changing rooms were clean and well maintained, with cleaners visible throughout the day.

Lockers & Relaxation Areas
No issues at all with lockers. Despite it being Mother’s Day weekend, I had no trouble finding a bed, and there was space in every area I wanted to use. If it were extremely busy, a robe storage system near the main pool might help, but this didn’t affect my experience. I really enjoyed the facilities and found them relaxing rather than crowded.

Treatment
My treatment was excellent — one of the highlights of the stay. The therapist was professional and attentive, and the massage was absolutely spot on, listened to the areas I wanted her to work on. There was no pressure to upgrade or purchase products, unlike other spas.

Lunch
Lunch was lovely: good service, well timed, pleasant surroundings and plenty of choice.

Room
The room felt very good value, with Elemis toiletries provided. While some areas could benefit from refurbishment, it’s a historic house and that’s part of its character. The view from our dual-aspect room over the golf course was beautiful and made the stay feel special.

Dinner
There was a wedding on that evening, which did slow dinner service slightly, but staff remained polite and helpful. The live singer created a lovely atmosphere and was a nice touch.

Breakfast & Departure
Breakfast the next morning was perfectly good, with fresh fruit available, and staff continued to be friendly and helpful.

Overall
I arrived expecting the worst based on some reviews but left having had a genuinely relaxing and enjoyable stay. It wasn’t flawless, but the positives far outweighed any minor issues. I would absolutely return — in fact, I’m already looking at booking again.

Lovely setting and initially looks inviting. But the spa is dirty and the beds are old and marked. I didn’t stay for lunch as put me off. The changing rooms were cramped, straightners didn’t work. Defo not worth the money
