What a joke.
Booked an appointment with Tom because of the reviews. Originally, I wanted to check the service and quality so went for a simple biab+gel polish.
Surprise-surprise, after paying 10£ deposit online I got an email that said: "it is Cash payment only in the salon. please notify us if cancelling your appointment so we could give the slot to some else". Ok, luckily I had 35£ on me.
I’m not going to rate the quality of my manicure because it doesn’t matter at this point. My nails were done by a different person and not original nail tech who I wanted.
I noticed that nothing was disposable or sterilized. Nobody is wearing gloves, nobody is spaying hand sanitizer on anything. My nails were filed with a reusable file, so I hope everyone before me is healthy with 0 problems.
But then my worst nightmare happened, a cut. With a cuticle nipper that is being stored in a a dusty organizer. Btw, everything is dusty because there’s no professional dust collectors. Let’s go back to the cut, the lady was very apologetic, used some green liquid to sterilise and clean the cut (I pray and hope it helped). But now I’m paranoid about all sorts of hepatitis.
And that’s why you should trust your gut, never go to the places where nail techs don’t wear gloves or open a bag with a sterilised instruments.
At the end of the appointment I was offered a loyalty card.. I would rather take a free health check in 6-8 weeks. Actually, that’s what I’m planning to do.
Cherry at the top, my day wasn’t going smooth since I’ve booked an appointment, but after one it went straight to hell.
This was my first time coming as I’ve been in search of a new nail tech since moving. Very pleased with both my hands and toes, the service was great and the pedicure was very relaxing. Impressed at how he did the whites of my French tips without me having to make them change it in some way (like I’ve always had to do in the past at other shops), he got them spot on first time! Would recommend and will definitely return ⭐️
Great service! All the nail techs are very skilled and reliable. Shout out to Tom and Hannah 🩵
Couldn’t recommend enough after being disappointed with another local salon Emily has done an amazing job and I’ve just found my new nail salon! Thanks so much
Always spot on - really friendly team
Such wonderful staff and so easy to talk to. They're really keen on doing a great job and will constantly check in on you. And Lisa is an absolute artist. I go for her every time and I'm always so impressed with the end result. 💜
Perfect
Hannah is brilliant, amazing attention to detail <3
Lisa did an infill and shape/colour change for me today- so professional! Nails look amazing, I'm so happy with them. ✨✨
Great nails 💅 😍 Thank you Hannah
If it were possible to award zero stars, I would do so without hesitation. I chose to visit this salon based on its 4.9 star rating on Google, which in my experience did not reflect the service provided.
The overall service was extremely disappointing. I noted from previous reviews that clients were offered refreshments while waiting and received full cuticle care; however, neither was offered to me.
Additionally, I found it highly unprofessional that staff openly conversed about clients in their own language in a manner that felt inappropriate and discourteous - particularly as I was able to understand what was being said.
The nail technician who attended to me (tall Asian male with a tattoo sleeve on his left arm and did NOT wear glasses) handled my nails with excessive force, using a very high grit rough file to literally try and hack off my nails, he filed my skin multiple times from how rough and heavy handed he was being, he was also gripping my fingers uncomfortably tightly. He was in a foul mood and clearly did not want to be there, he should have never been allowed to face customers with that level of aggression.
Despite my clear request for all nails to be of equal length, the final result was uneven amounts of acrylic - some nails are thicker than others and overall my nails are significantly shorter than requested, the polish finish is awful, I had one plain colour, not a complex design. Attempts to raise this concern were dismissed without proper consideration or correction.
What was intended to be a relaxing visit turned out to be an extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. It was evident that other technicians in the salon demonstrated a far gentler and more professional approach with their clients, which only highlighted the inconsistency in service.
At one point, another staff member even remarked that I appeared uncomfortable and advised my technician to be more gentle, yet no adjustment was made. He completed ignored his colleague. The female nail tech who sat at the first desk upon entry even called me crazy in her language as I was pulling uncomfortable faces, I gritted my teeth the whole way through and was desperate to leave the entire time.
Given the salon’s branding as the “UK’s Biggest Nail Brand” and the £45 charge for acrylic on natural nails with gel polish, I expected a far higher standard of service and professionalism. Unfortunately, this was not delivered. Sadly I will have to waste more money elsewhere to have this poor workmanship removed.
I will not be returning to M1 Nails in Wilmslow and would not recommend this establishment to others. I strongly advise prospective customers to consider alternative options.
Dear Mai,
Thank you for your feedback.
First of all, please accept my sincere apologies for your experience at our salon. I’m truly sorry that we did not meet your expectations.
I’d like to clarify a few points. Our staff sometimes communicate in Vietnamese due to language barriers, especially when discussing work-related matters. They always try their best to communicate with customers, even though their English is limited.
I believe there may have been a misunderstanding regarding the comment you mentioned. The word “crazy” was not directed at you—it was said between staff about the nail technique, as the filing style was quite unusual. In Vietnamese (and many other languages), certain words can have different meanings depending on context. That said, I completely understand how this could have been upsetting, and I sincerely apologise if it caused any offence.
Tom, who carried out your treatment, is one of our experienced technicians and has received many positive reviews. However, we understand that everyone can have an off day, and this is not the standard we aim to provide.
Regarding refreshments, we usually offer drinks to all customers. Unfortunately, on that day we were short-staffed and very busy. We are now making improvements, including setting up a self-service area so customers can still enjoy refreshments even during busy times.
We always want our clients to feel comfortable, and if anything isn’t right during your treatment, our team is more than happy to adjust or arrange another technician for you.
Once again, I’m truly sorry for your experience, and thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Kind regards,
Mai Trang
