I recently had some layers done by Kay , this was my first professional haircut in 14 years and she did an amazing job , she took care of me and listened to exactly what I wanted , if ur stuck deciding wether to get the cut please do she did an amazing job and listened really well , thank you strand and lock

Genuinely lovely place, hair exactly how I wanted it and the hairdresser Kay was absolutely lovely, never felt more comfortable at a hairdressers. Will be back :)

I asked not to lose to much off the ends some face framing and my fringe tiding up as I felt it was too heavy and couldn't do anything with it I was left with too much of the length which ok if it needed it I can live with that, but no face framing instead I got short layers at the top of my head that will not sit right no matter What I do my fringe still heavy but also cut way to short so looks even worse because at least before I could pin it back I can't now , I wished I never booked the appointment it's taken me a week to write this review as I've been so upset

Contacted the salon after a really disappointing experience with Kay. Lizzi, the owner, replied acknowledging the situation and said she would come back to me with a resolution, but I never heard anything further. Really upsetting experience, especially given the price and reputation of the salon.

From start to finish I was made to feel comfortable.
Danny’s knowledge and expertise was incredible. This guy knows how to cater for curly hair.
I have had curly hair all my life and never has it looked and felt like this! It’s phenomenal.
The whole experience was amazing. I left feeling confident with a spring in my step. Thank you so much Danny!

There aren't enough words to describe how fantastic the service is. Danny was the hair stylist who (some years ago now) completely changed my feelings on my curly hair and I learned to embrace and love them, after a life time of wishing I had straight hair. Danny's knowledge of curls is second to none and he always listens to you the client and explains what he is doing/done. I can highly recommend Danny and the team at Strand and Lock. If you are someone who is nervous or isn't comfortable having their hair done I can only say go for it, I was like that but from my very first curly cut with Danny I have never looked back.

I should preface this by clarifying I have had good success with “traditional” wet cuts in the past due to my looser hair texture, yet I have often wondered what my hair could look like if I finally were to try out a curly cut – now I can finally say the difference was indeed staggering!

Unsure as to what would be realistic to expect with my hair texture, I did not bring any inspiration pictures to my appointment: instead I simply asked Danny for his advice on how to proceed to unleash the curls’ full “potential”, only making two requests (which he happily accommodated) – to keep the length as unchanged as possible, and for the layers to be long enough to still be able to tie my hair back.

The result was game-changing, while at the same time not upending my appearance to an unrecognisable degree: we settled for a heavily layered cut, which by removing a lot of weight from my ends, revealed a lot more curls than I expected!

Danny’s meticulous curl-by-curl approach was unlike any stylist I have worked with before: he even spotted and trimmed one last stray curl that revealed itself as I was paying the bill! While his precision and attention to detail are undeniable, his patience and thoughtfulness impressed me more than anything else: throughout the appointment, he readily shared his wealth of knowledge with me as he answered my never-ending barrage of questions, and he would check in with me each time he removed any length to shape the layers, which I greatly appreciated.

The pride and joy he has for his craft are evident in both how he carries out his work, and in the way he runs his salon: despite not feeling my best on the day of my appointment, the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere there quickly put me at ease. All staff I had the pleasure of interacting with were nothing but kind and attentive – the fact many patrons on the premises that day were repeat customers only further proves their commitment to delivering outstanding service.

In short, if you are looking for a curly hair specialist in Birmingham, look no further than Danny and his team – rest assured there is no texture, from wavy to coily, that they won’t be able to enhance the natural beauty of!

Edited to add a shout out to Ellesha, who I had the pleasure to work with last time I visited the salon: attached is a picture of her work (colour revision and styling), which speaks for itself!

PS Their appointments do book out quickly, so I would recommend booking at least a month in advance — or a couple of months if you would like to work with Danny himself, though I would recommend Ellesha just as strongly ☺️
