I have been coming to Alice’s for a while.Every single time has been perfect. Staff are friendly, they will always try to fit you in (even when I call last minute) and the salon is clean and welcoming. I can’t recommend the luxury mani/ pedi enough. You leave with pristine, soft beautifully done hands and feet. I bring my mum whenever she is in town as she claims it is better than anywhere else she goes.

Me and my housemate were looking to get our ear lobes pierced. The booking process was simple and easy. When we arrived we were greeted by Alice, and she gave us the potential options. Alice was friendly and explanatory throughout, and it was a good price for the service. Would come back for any further piercings.

On face value this salon looks really nice but when you look closely you see how unhygienic this salon is. I had been coming here for 3 years, up until that point I had always done my own pedicures at home and then started coming here when I had my 2 children as I had less time to do my pedicures myself.

I contracted a fungal nail infection from Alice’s studio. I noticed that my 2 large toenails were going green/yellow and was told by the manager that It was a bruise from dropping something on them and I should buy a “liquid” she was pushing on me to buy and use on them. Instead I went to a podiatrist who informed me that I had a fungal infection in both big toes (how fungal infections usually start) she also confirmed the toenails weren’t bruised or damaged like what I was told at Alice’s Studio.

The podiatrist explained some things to look out for to know if a salon is professional and hygienic: do they use a fresh nail file/buffer on each client and give you the nail file to keep at the end of the service?. Do they take the jets out and sanitize them between clients after a pedicure? (the round thing in the pedicure chair bowls that produces bubbles in the water)
Alice’s Studio does none of these things. They share old nail files amongst clients and use the filthy jets client to client which are full of dead skin, nail clippings etc …The amount of fungal/bacterial infections that is being passed around client to client and the health risks here are absolutely outrageous and shows a total disregard for clients health and safety.

They charge a high price whilst skimping on the cheapest basic tools. Pure greed and carelessness.

I now have 2 toenails that look so unsightly and have even caused pain. It is costing me so much time and money to try and get rid of this fungal infection. I have now stopped wasting my money here and have chosen to give everyone a heads up. I am not going to bother contacting to make a complaint as they will gaslight me and deny all accountability of any of this whilst being fully aware of what harm they are doing. I also saw a few other reviews about the same issue and their replies; so this is not a one off and is just absolutely terrible careless practice.

Hygiene is at the core of our practice, we take it very seriously and we continue to practice at the highest standards to provide the best services to our clients. Fresh spa liner is used for each pedicure and all tools are sterilised after each treatment.
Getting fungal infection is unfortunate but it’s quite a common issue, the cause could be trauma (injuries to the nails), medical conditions (diabetes, weak immune system, poor circulation), moist environment and active lifestyle (sweaty footwear, pools saunas etc). Getting a pedicure every 4-6weeks is NOT the most likely cause.
We really care about our clients nail health and only advise what’s best for you. The fungus solution recommended has been proven to be suitable treatment . We NEVER push a sale, most of our retail items are retailed at wholesale price, we thrive on providing good quality services, not on retailing.
We sincerely hope your condition will be cleared soon.
