Just had a fab appointment with Alicia. She’s such a lovely person and amazing at what she does! Very happy client xx
I LOVE coming to see Alicia. She is a fantastic nail tech & has such an eye for detail. My nails are always perfect and get lots of compliments. She deserves all her success! Would highly recommend.
I trained at House of Beauty Bromsgrove in February last year (in dry manicure, gel polish, and builder gel in a bottle (BIAB)). Alicia was friendly and welcoming on the day. I really enjoyed talking to her, and I was excited to begin my career in nails.
However, reflecting on the experience a year later, I feel it’s important to share some concerns.
The practical course I paid £400 for was meant to include three models arranged by the trainer. On the day, only one model was available, so I only did a builder gel overlay. Despite not completing the full practical requirements, I passed the course. On the grounds that Alicia believed my builder gel overlay was really good, especially for it being my first time ever handling the product/process. I was not offered an additional day to complete the other applications I had missed, nor was I offered a partial refund.
As a newly qualified tech, I later realised I was not sufficiently prepared in key areas — including infills and structured practical processes. This left me lacking confidence and having to independently seek further education and guidance to ensure I was working to safe and professional standards.
I requested a return to the salon a few months later for additional help, as I had no money to pursue further professional education elsewhere. And I found that the entire system — products, tools, files, sanitation processes, and even the brand — had changed (from the Gel Bottle to Dali... I had just invested so much money in equipment and products). This made it even more difficult as a new student who was already trying to grasp the basics of the original method I had been taught.
Support after that day/ qualification was minimal. Although I was told I could reach out if struggling, this wasn’t acknowledged or explored further when I stated my confidence had been knocked. As a new tech, I felt quite alone as I navigated the industry.
Over time, I sought support from other local nail technicians who generously shared guidance, feedback, and practical help — often without charge. Who provided structured guidance and constructive feedback, even to this day. In just a few hours with experienced techs, I learned more hands-on techniques than I had during my original training day. With their help — alongside extensive independent research — I was able to significantly develop my skills and knowledge. And they were stunned when I explained my training day compared to the amount of knowledge I had about the nail industry, given that I'd been doing it for less than a year.
I now feel confident and competent in my practice, but that progress came largely from additional external support and self-education beyond my initial course.
I am sharing this review not to cause conflict, or to expect a refund a year on, but to encourage prospective students to ensure:
- Full practical requirements are completed before certification.
- Clear expectations are set regarding ongoing support.
- Training reflects the financial investment made.
Education in this industry is a serious responsibility. New technicians deserve thorough preparation before working on members of the public.
I truly hope training standards at the House of Beauty have evolved and improved since my experience. For anyone considering any nail course, I would strongly encourage ensuring that full practical requirements are met on the day and clarifying what post-course support is realistically provided.
I struggled significantly in my first months after qualifying, and I wouldn’t want another new technician to feel as unsupported or uncertain as I did. This industry should empower and equip the next generation with both confidence and competence.
Update: I was contacted via message, call, &voicemail close together. While Alicia was respectful, the conversation felt like damage control and resolution offered wasn't suitable for me (more financial loss due to travel / would effect my mental health etc.) No further steps offered.
Hi Molly,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m genuinely sorry to read that you’ve reflected on your training in this way, especially as my intention has always been to fully support my students as they begin their careers.
I remember your training days clearly, and I’m really pleased to hear that you now feel confident and competent in your practice, that is always the goal. I also appreciate you acknowledging that you enjoyed the day itself and felt welcomed.
Regarding the models on your initial training day, cancellations can occasionally happen despite being arranged in advance which is beyond our control. The clients that day cancelled with less than an hours notice which we was then unable to get additional models in for at such short notice.
On the day, we ensured you completed a full builder gel overlay and we worked through all theory, structure, product knowledge and processes required for safe practice. You later returned in May for a free refresher session day, where we again worked through infill techniques together, and general application.
In terms of ongoing support, I have always encouraged students to reach out if they need guidance, and I did respond when you contacted me following your qualification. I’m sorry to hear you felt your confidence was knocked — that was never communicated to me in that way, and had I known you were feeling unsupported, I would absolutely have arranged further help.
With regards to product changes, the brand transition happened in December 2025, several months after your training (Feb 2025) and refresher sessions (May 2025), we always previously trained our students with The Gel Bottle up until January 2026. Our education focuses on core principles and structure that is transferable across brands for ease for students, but also because most brands have the same application methods.
I truly care about maintaining high standards in education and continuously review and evolve my training programmes. Feedback — even when difficult to read — is always taken seriously.
I have also contacted you privately - not to remove this review - but so we can talk everything through that you've spoken about in your review today.
My door remains open should you ever wish to discuss anything further, and I'll speak to you soon.
Best wishes,
Alicia
**Update - After talking everything through with Molly, we offered another refresher day to come back in and complete more model work and more 1-1 time with us, this was declined by Molly and she stated it was best to draw a line under this as the proposed resolution wasn’t the right one for her.
We always strive to support our students once they leave their training day.
We also offer a mentoring service for any of our students who feel they would benefit from monthly check ins and further support as opposed to a one day course in the basics and fundamentals.
